As reports of kidnappings and disappearances have increased across Madagascar in recent weeks, the authorities believe these incidents go beyond ordinary criminal activity. In a statement released on July 6, the Ministry of the Interior and Decentralization said the cases are part of a broader destabilization campaign aimed at undermining public order and spreading fear among the population.
According to the government, the National Joint Planning Body (OMC/Nat) shares the concerns previously expressed by the President of the Republic regarding the country’s deteriorating security situation. Officials claim that “enemies of the Nation” are using kidnappings, disappearances, and other criminal acts as tools to disrupt national stability and create an atmosphere of insecurity.
The ministry stated that the defense and security forces have been instructed to intensify operations across the country to identify those responsible. Intelligence services, the National Police, the National Gendarmerie, and other relevant agencies are working together to locate missing persons, dismantle the criminal networks involved, and prevent further incidents.
Authorities also urged citizens to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement by reporting any suspicious activities or movements. They warned against the spread of misinformation on social media, arguing that false rumors contribute to public panic and may ultimately serve the objectives of those seeking to destabilize the country.
